A superb and highly decorative 19th-century French gilt console table and mirror, dating to circa 1870, exemplifying the elegance and refinement of French artistry.
The ensemble is centred around a striking half-round rouge marble top, its muted tones beautifully offset by the finely carved and giltwood base. The table is supported by four fluted legs, each crisply detailed and united by a shaped stretcher centred with a classical urn.
Above, the tall matching mirror rises in a graceful arched form, lavishly adorned with floral swags, all finely carved and retaining a luminous gilt finish. This same embellishment continues just below the table top with swags of roses giving the table a highly opulent feel.
The harmony between marble, giltwood, and sculptural ornament creates a piece of considerable presence, equally suited to a grand entrance hall, bedroom, or formal interior.
