About this piece
On offer for sale by our client is an usual item. It is a genuine vintage 1930s ( so almost antique ) Italian three door storage cabinet that would make a statement and be a decorative feature piece in the right space.
The cabinet is rectangular in form Ebonised in colour and has a concave cornice at the top and rounded corners. There are three flush fitting doors each embellished with painted and gilt decorative art work. The cabinet appears to have been made with an antique aged finish so as not to appear new when it was first made as it probably was made to sit well and fit in with existing aged antique pieces. Inside each cabinet is an adjustable shelf. The central door and both sides of the cabinet feature floral panels while the outer doors feature romantic scenes.
The cabinet sits on an impressive base platform comprising of an elaborately carved apron featuring French scrolls and a central shell supported on corner positioned bold cabriole legs with carved knees all in the French Louis IV manner and with a gilt finish now slightly warn. If regilded the base would be absolutely spectacular.
Condition: Over all good commensurate with age and use reflecting the original aged finish. Slight damage around the keyholes however we will provide appropriate brass key hole escutcheons. The cabinet comes with a key.
Size: Cabinet - Width 170cm x Depth 44cm ……… Base - Width 185cm x Depth 51cm …… Height 152cm.
Price: The cabinet comes with conformation of the price tag of $7,900 in the later 1970s when purchased for $7,500 by my clients parents.
Sellers Observation: This is a superb feature statement piece and makes an even better ‘drinks cabinet’.
