This iconic pendant is a masterclass in Danish Modernism, and holds an important place in Danish mid-century design.
The Louisiana Pendant, originally designed in 1967 for Louis Poulsen, was created specifically to complement the interior architecture of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, which Wolhert also co-designed. Louisiana is often cited as the most beautiful museum in the world. The pendant’s deep, hemispherical shade features a signature white louvre or diffuser at the base. It is designed to provide soft, glare-free illumination while maintaining a scultural, understated pre ensue. This louvres ensure that the light is directed downward without blinding the viewer, making it an ideal choice for dining tables or gallery spaces.
The Designer, Vilhelm Wohlert was a titan of Danish architecture and a student of the legendary Kaare Klint. His work is defined by a "less-is-more" ethos, focusing on precise structural elements and natural materials. While he is famous for his lighting and furniture, his most enduring legacy is his 33-year collaboration on the design and expansion of the Louisiana Museum.
