Sterling silver four-piece tea service by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1952, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession, with the corresponding coronation mark. The set comprises a teapot, hot water pot, sugar bowl and creamer, each forged in sterling silver with acanthus leaf detail and ornate spouts. The teapot and hot water pot have timber separators to the handles to reduce heat transfer when filled.
While not an antique, the design carries a distinctly 19th-century character. Each piece is stamped to the underside: ‘GOLDSMITHS AND SILVERSMITH COMPANY LD 112 REGENT STREET W’. The firm merged with Garrard, then Crown Jeweller, in 1952, aligning this set with the closing chapter of the company’s independent history.
Condition: recently cleaned and polished by a silversmith; presents in good order.
