This armchair was made by Van Treight, one of the well-known names in Australian mid-century furniture manufacturing, in Tasmanian Blackwood, dated to around 1960.
Van Treight ran for over five decades from its Sydney base, known for clean, Scandinavian-influenced lines sold through department stores and, for a period, manufactured under licence for the US market through Drexel. This chair carries that same restraint, with sculpted blackwood armrests framing a simple, upright silhouette.
The piece has been fully restored, with the timber refinished and the seat professionally reupholstered in a multicoloured, textured woven chenille by Lola, over new premium foam.
