About this piece

The Graph was designed by Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub for Wilkhahn and presented at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2012. Its seat shell is cut through and reassembled, with die-cast aluminium armrests becoming the link between seat and back, so a classic shell form gains openings and visual lightness. Wilkhahn furnished the New York Stock Exchange’s historic meeting rooms with it.

Comfort comes from the construction rather than a mechanism: a three-point support with a rear spring strut gives a sprung feel that also flexes at the sides. This is the 301/5 medium-back version in tan leather, with polished aluminium arms and a four-star swivel base on castors.

Condition
Pre-owned. The leather is in good condition with light creasing from use. The polished aluminium armrests show scratches and scuffs on the top surfaces. See photos. Made by Wilkhahn Asia Pacific.

Ideal for
Boardrooms, executive offices, meeting rooms and dining.

Design Story

Wilkhahn is one of the most respected names in modern office design, known for combining German engineering, ergonomic innovation, and minimalist aesthetics.

Founded in 1907 near Hanover, Wilkhahn began as a traditional furniture manufacturer before evolving into a pioneer of contemporary workplace design. In the decades following World War II, the company embraced modernism and developed a philosophy centered around functionality, movement, and long term quality.

Wilkhahn became especially influential through its focus on ergonomics and dynamic sitting. Rather than designing static office chairs, the company explored how furniture could support natural movement and improve wellbeing during long hours of work. This approach led to innovations like the Wilkhahn ON Chair, whose three dimensional movement system helped redefine modern ergonomic seating.

Unlike many corporate furniture brands, Wilkhahn placed equal importance on engineering and visual restraint. Its furniture often features clean architectural lines, premium materials, and subtle detailing that reflects a distinctly German approach to design: precise, intelligent, and understated.

Today, Wilkhahn furniture is found in executive offices, creative workspaces, and institutions around the world. The brand remains closely associated with the evolution of the modern workplace, where comfort, movement, and design are increasingly seen as inseparable.
