About this piece
An antique pair of red painted doors from China, dating to the early 20th century.
Each door has an open grid lattice in the upper section, above a narrow red band painted with characters in yellow, one door carrying the characters for happiness. The lower panels hold painted scenes of cranes among pine branches on a pale blue ground, framed in red, and the frames are edged in black. Together, the crane and pine are a traditional Chinese wish for a long life.
Sold as a pair.
