About this piece
Sixteen leaves of book-matched Queensland walnut radiate from a single point across the top of this round dining table from around 1960. It stands on a solid blackwood base with slender tapered legs.
Sunburst veneer of this kind takes a skilled hand to lay, and the walnut shifts from dark to light at every segment as the light moves across it. The blackwood base stays quiet beneath it, and the top carries the room.
Restored in our studio, with the veneer stabilised and refinished in Oli Natura hardwax oil. Minor edge repairs have been made. The table is structurally sound and in excellent restored condition.
A thick toughened glass top with a polished edge is available for $440, should you want to protect the veneer for everyday use.
75 cm high and 130 cm in diameter. It seats four comfortably, or works as a centre table in a larger living room.
