Zest and Lavender is an acrylic on board by Queensland artist Nikola, presented in a frame fitted with anti-glare glass.
Nikola’s practice is grounded in sustainable making and colour-driven compositions. Formative experiences during Expo ’88 and a long-standing regard for Australian artist Ken Done inform her approach. Her work also references the bold shapes and palette associated with Henry Matisse and a Mediterranean summer, alongside ancient Greek amphoras and the classical forms of Byzantine art that reflect her Greek Australian heritage. Additional influences include travel, 1960s–70s fashion, and interior design. This artwork was created specifically for Saint Atlas.
