Details
This rather incredible diamond plaque brooch was made during the Edwardian period. The piece has been entirely hand made from platinum and set with 136 old European cut diamonds which are estimated to be of G colour and SI clarity totalling approximately 5 carats. The plaque takes the form of a spiralling wreath type motif with perhaps what is supposed to mimic berries. The design of the brooch is hauntingly similar to the Boucheron diamond wave tiara which is inspired by the Japanese artist Hokusai's work 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'. Interestingly three of the sides of this brooch are rippled which the top edge is completely straight, leading us to think it was perhaps originally one half of a double belt buckle, and later converted to be a brooch. To the rear the brooch has a 14 karat white gold hinged pin with a lever style safety catch which is working well and is secure. A really delightful piece of Edwardian period jewellery which would be an exquisite accompaniment to a little black dress.
