About this piece

Set of six genuine English William IV dining chairs, c.1830–1837, retaining the strong Georgian rail-and-bar back aesthetic. Crafted in solid imported Brazilian rosewood.

The backs feature a shaped, curved top rail over a lower waist rail carved as a foliate-embellished French C-shaped inverted scroll. A vertical, saw-pierced splat links the top rail to a central rectangular panel set within the scrolls, with stylised decorative carving.

Frames with vertical, straight seat rails; front legs turned and tapered with ring turnings and a long inverted carved tulip motif. Webbed and padded seats are upholstered in green leather with an individually studded finish.

Condition: Very good original condition. Frames are solid and retain the original polished finish; the polish would benefit from professional refurbishment.
