Early 20th-century Victorian hinged bangle in 15 karat yellow gold, hallmarked to Melbourne jewellers Hiddlestone & Saunders, who operated from 318 Little Collins Street in the CBD. The central element is set with two rectangular-cut emeralds flanking a single old European cut diamond of P/Q colour and P2 clarity, totalling 0.20 carat.
The bangle carries the ‘15’ hallmark for 15 karat gold and the Australian ‘hanged sheep’ purity mark, used in the late 19th and early 20th century. A tongue-and-box clasp fastens securely and is accompanied by a fine gold safety chain. The hinged construction allows the piece to pass easily over the hand and offers a generous internal width.
