Design Story
Parker Furniture is one of Australia’s most important mid century furniture makers, known for defining the look of post war Australian interiors.
Founded in the 1930s by Fred Parker, the company grew from a small workshop into a national reference point for well made timber furniture. Its rise really accelerated in the 1950s and 1960s, when Australian homes were shifting toward cleaner, more modern living spaces.
Parker became known for its use of solid timbers, especially teak and walnut, combined with simple, functional silhouettes. The pieces were designed to last, both structurally and stylistically, which is why so many are still in circulation today rather than discarded.
Unlike many European counterparts that leaned heavily into experimental design culture, Parker stayed grounded in practical elegance. Dining tables, sideboards, chairs and lounge pieces were built with proportion and durability in mind, often becoming the quiet centre of Australian family homes.
Today, Parker Furniture is widely collected and restored, sitting at the intersection of nostalgia and design credibility. Its pieces are not just vintage furniture, they are a snapshot of how Australia learned to live with modern design without losing warmth or utility.
