An excellent quality fine example and rare design of an antique English, George IV Set of Four Dining Chairs circa 1830. These chairs are stamped by the well respected cabinetmakers Saunders and Wooley who were noted chair and bedstead makers from Poughley of Oxfordshire. The chairs are superbly hand crafted and detailed from selected imported prestigious Central American Mahogany.
These chairs have a most unusual “show timber ‘frame design. The shaped back is padded with a lower exposed waist rail with central carving while the upper back is rolled back and there are two ‘compass point’ circular carvings. The seat rails are straight and nicely profiled. The front legs are turned and downward tapered with an upper carved Tulip and lower reeding. crafted in high uality imported prestigeious Central American Mahogany.
Condition: The chair frames are in excellent original condition and desirably retain their original finish which now has an excellent patina. They have been properly re upholstered with hand rolled and stitched edges and covered in calico. They just await your choice of the top cover.
