The oval lava cameo medallions depict putti and appear to have been repurposed from an earlier piece, likely dating to the 1870s when lava cameos were popular. Each cameo is mounted within an 18 karat yellow gold frame suspended from the diamond-set studs, also in 18 karat yellow gold.
The studs are set with old mine cut diamonds, estimated at G colour and VS clarity, with a combined weight of 0.38 carat. The earrings are fitted with lever U-shaped backings that are working well and secure. Two small gold hallmarks are present; while the pair is very likely Continental in origin, the country of manufacture and maker are unascertained. Metal tests confirm 18 karat yellow gold.
