This is a fine ( excellent ) quality example of a genuine antique English mid Victorian period circa 1860 Mirror back Marble top Walnut Credenza with a strong French Louis XV Rococo influence.
The tall and elegant solid Walnut show timber frame contains the original mirrored plate and is embellished with an impressive crest carving of stylised folage in the French ‘C’ shapes. At either side of the base of the mirror frame are in a triangular formation flowing fully saw pierced carved ‘C’ and ‘S’ shaped scrolling carved leaves.
The shaped Carrara white marble top is of serpentine shape at either end and the whole has an attractive edge molding.
The lower cabinet is finished in superb selected well Walnut which is very well figured and is a lovely warm honey colour. There are three storage compartments all with mirror paneled doors with raised moldings and decorative crest carvings. The smaller end cupboards are angled while the centre cupboard is larger and all cupboards have an internal shelf. Either side of the cupboard doors are large rounded engaged pilasters each with their own raised decorative moldings.
Condition: Desirably Excellent with original polish and good patina..

Sellers Observation: This is a ‘Goldilocks’ type of Credenza in that everything is just right with excellent quality materials construction style detail and condition. Just a lovely piece of furniture. Back in the 1980s our vendor paid over $9,000 for it which was the going rate then so it is now bargain some 40 years later as they can bring big money on the better international online selling sites.
