A quirky Murano, or Murano style glass sculpture of an evil looking clown. With no marks or labels, these can be hard to identify, as they were made by several different Murano factories, and were also made by Venetian Glass Company, which was a glass works in Blackpool, England, set up and operated by Franco Toffolo in the 1960's - 1980's.
Franco previously worked for Venini in 1946-1950. He moved to the UK in 1965 and set up Venetian Glass Company, which made Murano style glassware including clowns. It is presumed he worked for or owned another Murano factory before moving to the UK, as very similar items can be found with his signature and genuine Murano labels.
The clown is 25.5cm tall and is in good condition. It does look as if he was at some stage holding something in his hand which has broken. This is reflected in the price.
