Handmade platinum bow brooch from the Art Deco period, set with old European-cut diamonds and black onyx. The delicate platinum frame forms a stylised bow, pavé-set with 48 old European-cut diamonds graded G–H colour and SI clarity, with a combined weight of 2.10 carat. The design is further articulated with 43 baguette-cut black onyx, a characteristic Deco pairing alongside diamonds.
Unmarked but tests as platinum. The reverse is fitted with a hinged pin and C-type catch with safety closure.
Believed to retain its original retailer’s box from Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst, Conduit Street, London. The firm was founded in 1849 and counted Winston Churchill and Indian Maharajas among their clientele. The brooch likely dates to the 1930s.
Condition: Presents in good vintage condition with age-related wear. Several onyx pieces exhibit cracks or small chips, and one diamond shows a chip. These are not readily noticeable without close inspection and are commensurate with age and use.
