English Victorian period mahogany two-height bookcase and display cabinet from the 1870s, presented in excellent restored condition.
The upper display section features a well-profiled cornice above a pair of full-height rectangular glazed doors, opening to a clean interior with four adjustable-height, full-width shelves. The lower storage cabinet comprises side-by-side recessed panel frieze drawers with turned timber pulls, over a pair of full-height panelled doors with recessed rectangular panels echoing the upper section. Inside is a full-width shelf. The whole is set on a shaped plinth base that visually balances the upper cornice.
Rounded front corners unify the cornice, pediment, upper doors, frieze, lower doors and base. For its scale, the comparatively shallow depth of the lower cabinet reduces projection into the room.
