English Georgian Regency period rosewood side table, 1811–1820, also suited to use as a writing table. Finished on all sides for free-standing placement. The case is constructed from heavy solid English oak; the drawers are fully mahogany lined. Shaped and carved supports and the full-width turned stretcher are in solid rosewood, with the top, frieze, base and feet finished in decoratively figured rosewood now matured to a mid honey tone. The rosewood reflects the use of prestigious imported Central American timbers of the period.
The top and frieze are rectangular with rounded corners. The front frieze houses two side-by-side flush-fitting drawers with a narrow central drawer, and the lower edge is detailed with a fine turned bead moulding. At each end, vertical carved uprights embellished as stylised tulips sit on small horizontal bases and are joined by the stretcher. From the front and rear of the bases, squared-profile, French-influenced S-shaped scrolled legs descend to the original all-brass castor assemblies.
Condition: Near excellent, with minor wear and a repair to the bottoms of the feet due to castor wear.
