Substantial set of eight English George IV mahogany dining chairs comprising two carver chairs and six side chairs. One carver is an excellent later replacement.
The show timber frames are crafted from imported Central American mahogany. Deep curved top rails are veneered in flame mahogany and terminate in boldly carved, opposed Prince of Wales feathers. Back uprights carry carved foliate motifs at the crest and run with full-length reeding down to the seat frame.
On the carvers, the curved arms scroll down and under; reeded arm supports continue into the side rails of the seat frame. All seat rails are straight with a pronounced horizontally reeded profile.
Front legs are downward tapered with full-height hexagonal facets; rear legs are of sabre form. Seats are drop-on, webbed and upholstered, designed to lift off for easy maintenance and recovering.
Condition: Sound and very good original condition, commensurate with age and use.
