About this piece

Micro mosaic pin depicting the Arch of Titus in Rome, likely acquired as a Grand Tour souvenir in the 19th century. Housed in an untested gold frame, believed by the seller to be at least 9 kt.

Micro mosaics are created by assembling fragments of multi-coloured glass into a base to form an image. The technique was especially popular in Italy in the mid-19th century, with origins in the Renaissance of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Condition:
- All tesserae intact.
- Blue glass backing with a fine hairline crack; secure, with the frame holding the piece tightly.
- Pin and clasp secure and working well.
