French 19th-century Mazarin desk executed in the André Boulle manner. The ebonised top is extensively inlaid with chased brass marquetry and finished with a cast gilt-bronze edge moulding and raised, applied corner mounts.
The case comprises two bow-fronted semi pedestals, each with three full-width stacked drawers, all ebonised and profusely inlaid with chased brass work. Canted corners feature applied curved, brass-inlaid column forms. Each pedestal sits on corner-positioned, squared and tapered ebonised legs with chased brass marquetry, upper and lower squared gilt-bronze mounts, and applied bronze circular feet. The four legs of each pedestal are united by curved X-form cross-stretchers with chased brass inlay.
Between the pedestals, the kneehole section presents a wide serpentine-fronted drawer above a curved cupboard, both ebonised and elaborately embellished with chased brass marquetry.
The desk is fully finished on all sides for freestanding presentation. The rear mirrors the front with matching inlay and finish; drawers and cupboard to the reverse are faux. All drawers and cupboards retain their original locks; a key is present (additional keys can be made if required).
Condition: Overall very good for age, with relatively minor conservation required. Professional conservation can be arranged.
