Details

This particular tapestry is a Verdure Aubusson circa 1780 / 1790. ‘Verdure’ (foliage) tapestries were woven throughout the 17th and 18th Centuries, featuring wooded landscapes, reflecting the interest in botanical themes during this period.

Interestingly, this would have been a section of a much larger tapestry probably divided into 4 more practical pieces around 1910-1920.

The reverse side is also fascinating. Giving clues to how it would have been hand stitched by candle light 250 years ago.

An amazingly rare and beautiful piece which I am honoured to have pass through my hands.

Professionally cleaned in Saint-Étienne and is ready to be hung.
