About this piece
Areas where darker tones are now absent—particularly within the fruit motifs—reflect the long-term effect of tannin-based dyes used on darker-coloured wool threads. Over time these tannins degraded the natural fibres, resulting in selective thread loss, a phenomenon commonly observed in historic, unrestored tapestries.
