These three Minton porcelain plates are decorated very simply, but strikingly, with central hand coloured transfer prints of cherubs which have done in puce. The pattern number is G 1533 and is shown in the Minton archives as 'Pink Cupids by John Walker'. The Minton archives are not aware of John Walker being known as a designer, but a check of the index of names shows a John Walker listed under 'Printers and Transferrers' in 1882, which could be the same person. The G series patterns were generally richly decorated china tableware, but there were also less decorated pieces. The outer rim features a very fine basket weave moulding and the edge is finished with gilding. They measure 257 mm (10.5 inches) in diameter and stand 25 mm (1 inch) high. They were made for the long established and prominent retailer John Mortlock and carry the impressed date cypher for 1874.
