Founded in 1927 in Meda by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina, the company originally produced handcrafted wooden furniture before evolving into a pioneer of industrial design in postwar Italy. As modern architecture began reshaping Europe, Cassina became one of the first companies to bridge artisanal tradition with large scale modern production.
The company gained international recognition through collaborations with legendary architects and designers including Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. Their furniture designs, particularly the LC4 Chaise Longue and the LC2 Chair, became defining symbols of modernist interiors.
Unlike many furniture brands focused purely on decoration, Cassina approached furniture as part of a broader architectural vision. Its pieces emphasized proportion, innovation, and material quality while maintaining the elegance and refinement associated with Italian craftsmanship.
