This is an excellent example of a very good quality genuine antique antique English Victorian period Centre Table or large Occasional Table.
The easiest shape to make is a square or rectangle due to the straight lines. A circle is a little more difficult and then an oval shape. With this table construction becomes more complex due to its serpentine shape with its eight lobes. The apron of course has to follow in form and it is also variable in profile. and undulates. The solid Walnut support columns are also complex being four in number and all identically shaped and carved embellished. They sit on lower cabriole legs with foliate carved scrolled feet which have their original brass and brown castor assemblies. The top is finished in superb book leaf matched beautifully figured and lovely ’honey’ colured decorative Walnut.
Condition: Excellent commensurate with age and use. The veneers are excellent.
