A striking art glass vase from the "Joy" series designed by Gunnel Sahlin for Kosta Boda, Sweden, 1991. One of the defining pieces from Sahlin's two-decade tenure at Sweden's oldest and most artistic glassworks.
Gunnel Sahlin brought a textile designer's sensibility to glass, creating pieces with bold colour, graphic expression, and sculptural presence. Her work helped establish Swedish design as an international marvel in the 1990s. This vase exemplifies her distinctive approach — soft, sensual forms with confident use of colour and pattern.
Kosta Boda, founded in 1742, is renowned for hiring painters, sculptors, and artists for limited periods to keep their aesthetic fresh and experimental. Sahlin was among their most significant designers, working with the company from 1986 to 2005. Her glass is represented in Nationalmuseum Sweden, Röhsska Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and private collections worldwide.
