Sami Kallio designed the In Between collection for &Tradition in 2017, and the SK8 counter stool is one of its most familiar pieces. Kallio was born in Helsinki in 1975 and works from Gothenburg, Sweden. In Between began as a single chair and grew into a series of chairs, stools and tables.
The legs and armrest are turned from solid oak, and the seat and side panels are formpressed from oak veneer, a mix of traditional woodworking and compression moulding. The name comes from the gaps in the crescent shaped back and armrest, where the shape of the wood and the space between it both count.
This stool is in oak with a traditional soap finish, a Scandinavian treatment that keeps the timber pale and matte, and it comes with a padded seat pad in your choice of black leather or cowhide. It is the counter height model, suited to a kitchen counter or a small bar table. A brace between the legs works as a footrest and keeps the stool stable, and the armrest curves round the sitter for support.

Dimensions: 58 cm W x 54 cm D x 90 cm H to the top of the backrest. Seat height 65 cm and armrest height 88 cm, from the manufacturer's specification.
Wipe the oak with a soft, slightly damp cloth, and refresh the soap finish when the timber looks dry. Wipe leather with a soft, damp cloth, and brush or vacuum cowhide lightly.
