Timeless elegance
It’s uncanny how a chair designed in 1958 as outdoor seating still manages to look both classic and contemporary in twenty-first century interiors. The chairs’ clean, trim lines make them appropriate for all kinds of places, from homes to elegant offices to hip start-ups.
Aluminum Group chairs, upholstered in traditional fabric or leather, are ribbed at 1 7/8-inch intervals for a clean, refined appearance. In addition to powder coat finishes and polished aluminum, the base and frame is available in eggplant, an archival colour that beautifully complements black leather upholstery.
Innovative comfort
Never being ones to favour style over substance, Charles and Ray Eames gave their designs an innovative suspension that creates a firm, flexible “sitting pocket” that conforms subtly to the body’s shape. They created that suspension by stretching a continuous piece of seat-back upholstery tautly between lightweight aluminium side ribs.
Aluminium Group seat pads have a layered construction with fabric or leather upholstery. Cygnus mesh is a self-contouring, flexing material available on Aluminium Group chairs to provide aeration, even weight distribution and long-term comfort. Designed specifically for the Eames Aluminium Group, Cygnus is an elegant option.
Executive and management models have seat-height and tilt-swivel adjustments.

Design Story
Working from the United States from the 1940s onward, they approached design as a total system rather than isolated objects. Their work blended architecture, furniture, photography, film, and everyday life into one coherent vision.
They are best known for their long collaboration with Herman Miller, which helped bring their ideas into homes and offices worldwide. Together they created pieces that are still instantly recognisable today.
Among their most iconic designs is the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, a piece that combined plywood shell construction with luxurious comfort and became a global symbol of modern living. Earlier work like the LCW chair explored new ways of shaping wood into ergonomic forms, while their molded plastic chairs, including the DSW, brought accessible modern design into everyday dining rooms.
They also extended their thinking beyond furniture. The Eames House in California, part of the Case Study House program, shows their core philosophy clearly: modular structure, honest materials, and a deep respect for how people actually live.
The Eames legacy is not just a set of famous objects. It is a way of thinking about design as something that should be playful, useful, scalable, and deeply human at the same time.
