About this piece
A very rare 19th century English cast iron conservatory table, in original condition.
Cast iron foundries played a major roll in the success of the Industrial Revolution during the early part of the 19th centenary.
The ability to manufacture lighter items lead to the popularity of indoor and outdoor cast iron furniture.
Foundries such as Coalbrookdale and Winfield situated in the north of England lead the way in manufacturing such items.
Many of these items were melted down for reuse during the two World wars and for this reason early examples of cast iron furniture are very rare.
The top is cast with an intricate pierced pattern, which has a small 19th century restoration.
The table base has two side supports decorated with female heads and fruit which are joined by finely cast stretcher.
Original condition with painted patina.
The table has a Lozenge registration mark, circa 1860.
