Early Victorian English side table, 1845–1850, crafted from selected imported Brazilian rosewood.
The top presents a symmetrical serpentine outline with a lamb’s tongue edge moulding. A shallow apron follows the contour of the top and is detailed with a lower cock-bead moulding. Support is provided by end-positioned cylindrical columns that terminate at the base with carved stylised leaf circular flanges and inverted finials beneath.
Full-height legs brace the support columns and transition to French cabriole forms with raised knee carvings of flowers and leaves. The rear of the legs carry French C-shaped scrolls, while the toes are upward scrolled and retain the original all-brass castor assemblies. The vertical columns are linked by a turned stretcher, embellished with central opposed stylised tulip turnings.
Condition: Excellent for age, retaining desirable original condition.
