About this piece
French bronze sculpture titled La Jeunesse by Henri Chapu, rendered by the Ferdinand Barbedienne foundry in Paris using the “Reduction Mecanique” devised by French engineer and company co‑founder Achille Collas. This technique, pioneered by Collas and Barbedienne to produce refined reductions of larger works, is often credited with revolutionising bronze production of the period.
Later retailed in the United States by the New York retailer Tiffany & Co.; the bronze carries the ‘Tiffany & Co.’ signature. Mounted on a marble base.
