Founded in 1950 in Basel by Willi Fehlbaum, the company began as a shop fitting manufacturer before discovering the work of Charles Eames and Ray Eames during a trip to the United States. Over time, Vitra became far more than a manufacturer. The company built long term collaborations with some of the world’s most important designers, including Verner Panton, Jean Prouvé, and Jasper Morrison. Rather than chasing trends, Vitra focused on timeless forms, intelligent engineering, and furniture designed to improve everyday life.
Its pieces became staples of modern interiors, from creative offices and museums to carefully curated homes. At the same time, Vitra helped preserve design history by continuing to produce many classic mid century designs with exceptional attention to detail and authenticity.
