About this piece

Genuine 18th-century English George III tilt-top table, handmade c. 1775 for use as a wine, centre, tea, or occasional table. The top is a wide, single solid board of well-figured, mellow-coloured imported Central American mahogany. Its scalloped perimeter carries an integral raised pie-crust moulding formed from the same board, not later applied.

A well-turned central column rises from a short cylindrical plinth and issues three shaped cabriole legs. The knees carry proud foliate carving, and the legs terminate in finely carved, slender ball-and-claw feet.

Condition: Excellent for age; previously conserved.
