Oil on board, The Old Milking Shed by George Duncan (1904–1974) quietly honors postwar rural life in New South Wales. Painted after Duncan and Alison Rehfisch moved to the country in 1947, it reflects their connection to Berrima and Moss Vale. A limited palette and careful brushwork turn weathered timber and corrugated iron into a symbol of endurance; light, shadow and simple composition highlight texture, shape and a quiet sense of memory.
