Details

Whitefriars was based in London since 1680 on a location that had previously been a monastery founded in 1241.

The position meanthat sand, clay, coal and other materials used in the glassmaking process could easily be transported to the factory. It was known to be the largest and most extensive glassworks of its time, before its unfortunate closure in 1980 after 300 years of glassmaking.

Whitefriars continues to be recognised as a world leader of glassmaking, famous for its iconic designs and colours, and continues to be valued for its quality and beauty.

One of the most iconic designs is the Whitefriars swan, and this is a beautiful example made in the 1960s in a pale green glass.

It is 16.5cm at its tallest point and 13.5cm at its widest and is in great condition.
