Late 19th Century Griffin | 84cm Tall | Hand-Carved Walnut | Bavarian Castle Salvage
Carved in Bavaria in the late 1800s, this guardian figure once supported a monumental table in a castle interior. Half eagle, half lion — the griffin embodied vigilance and strength, its mythic role to protect what was precious.
Formed in solid walnut, its plumage layers outward across spread wings, taloned claws gripping an acanthus-scroll base. Time has darkened the timber to a deep burnished tone, accentuating every feather and curve. The head turns slightly, still watchful — a relic of nobility now freed from its original throne.
