Biography:

Dagmar Ackerman (b. 1954, Czechoslovakia) is a Sydney-based contemporary glass artist whose practice intersects rigorous graphic geometry with the fluid nuances of kiln-formed and cast glass. Following a foundational career in graphic design and subsequent formal glass studies at the Sydney College of the Arts in 1997, Ackerman established a permanent, multi-decade practice within the historic One+2 Artist Studios in Balmain. Her work is characterized by an exploration of structural and optical dualities, translating organic patterns, linear configurations, and light manipulation through technically demanding fuse-casting, vitrigraph, and pâte de verre methods. Represented in institutional collections such as the National Glass Collection (Wagga Wagga Art Gallery) and Artbank, Ackerman's studio glass frequently references the structural and tonal relationships of the Australian landscape, balancing precise geometric discipline with the intrinsic, fragile tensile strength of the medium.
