Biedermeier roll-top desk in richly figured flame mahogany, c. 1845, of North German or Baltic origin. The veneers display defined cathedral figuring across the upper frieze, tambour, and drawer fronts.
Designed for comprehensive organisation, the desk provides eleven working drawers and three cupboards. It retains original brass hardware with four keys present; all locks are in good working order.
The tambour opens smoothly to a fitted interior with four small drawers flanking a central cupboard, set above a leather-inset writing surface. The tooled desktop pulls forward over the pedestals, flanking a central kneehole cabinet to increase working depth and legroom.
A concealed gallery is integrated within the upper section, comprising a full-width drawer and two smaller drawers. Below, storage includes a full-width frieze drawer, three pedestal drawers, a central cupboard, and a further cupboard disguised behind three graduated false drawer fronts.
Original and unrestored, the condition is very good. The tambour operates smoothly, principal compartments function as intended, and the desk retains a warm, well-preserved patina. Note a small loss to the moulding on the frieze drawer. The desktop separates from the lower pedestals for transportation.
