Details

Designed in the 1950s by Charles and Ray Eames these well constructed chairs were made by the original European licence holders, ICF in Italy. Herman Miller appointed ICF as licensees to cover the European region in the years before Vitra took over and building a solid reputation as trusted makers of this iconic chair. However, when the licence passed to Vitra, ICF rather naughtily carried on making for a good few years as they had all the tooling and production facilities in their factory in the suburbs of Milan. Hence these chairs carry the characteristic 'not related to Herman Miller sticker' on the underside, next to their official ICF branding. Sitting on 5 legged aluminium bases on castors, these chairs are fixed height and ideal for those who want a firm, supportive minimalist-design chair at a standard c70cm desk height. The mesh material allows air, body heat, and water vapour to pass through the seat and backrest to help maintain even and comfortable skin temperatures and the metal structural frame is commercial grade aluminium. As is very typical on the ICF/italian chairs the aluminium arms are dulled, but polishing/buffing is easy if you prefer bright and shiny. There are scuff marks in places here and there, but these are minimal and do not detract from their appeal.
