Details
Heavy and formidable, this classic chair was likely manufactured in the 1970s, although the original US design by Charles & Ray Eames dates back to the 1950s.
Still selling new today, an equivalent example would set you back over $2,000.
Sitting on an early 4 legged aluminium base, this fixed height, swivel chair would suit use as a home-office work chair complimenting any mid-century modern interior. It currently stands on 'slides' that move easily across most surfaces. It's a very straightforward process to add castors if these are required.
The material is heavy duty black vinyl - often mistaken for leather - and the metal structural frame is commercial grade aluminium. Many of the cheap - unoriginal - imports are chrome plated with plastic fittings and simply will not last like this.
Often on these chairs, the aluminium arms tend to attract scratches from watches and bracelets, but this example is free of any such damage, just showing a little 'crazing' under the lacquer.
