Very hard to find and sought after light tan (brown) leather mid 20th century Soft Pad Aluminium Group Chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller in excellent vintage condition.
Purchased new in the 1970's, they spent the first 50 years of their life cosseted in the board room of a legal chambers in Liverpool, England.
The chairs rotate 360 degrees and have removable floor glides. A well-built, extremely comfortable chair.
Charles and Ray Eames developed the Eames Soft Pad chair in 1969 as a luxury version of their Eames Aluminum Group chairs. Introduced in 1958, the Aluminum Group was a special project by Charles and Ray Eames for a private residence being designed by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard for Cummins Engines founder J. Irwin Miller in Columbus, Indiana.
At the time, the furniture was called the "leisure group," or "indoor-outdoor group" since it was meant to address the lack of quality outdoor furniture on the market. Herman Miller began making the Aluminum Group chairs in 1958, and they have been in continuous demand ever since.

Earlier work like the LCW chair explored new ways of shaping wood into ergonomic forms, while their molded plastic chairs, including the DSW, brought accessible modern design into everyday dining rooms.
They also extended their thinking beyond furniture. The Eames House in California, part of the Case Study House program, shows their core philosophy clearly: modular structure, honest materials, and a deep respect for how people actually live.
