About this piece
Art Deco openwork platinum brooch set with aquamarines and old cut diamonds, dating to the 1920s. Unmarked; acid-tested as platinum and likely of United States origin—an example of the “Gatsby” era of jewellery.
At the centre sits an emerald-cut aquamarine weighing 8.10 carats in a rubover setting. Four baguette-cut aquamarines accent the corners, each finished with a millegrain edge. The remainder of the plaque is set with eighty-eight old cut diamonds of H colour and SI clarity, totalling approximately 1.50 carats.
The reverse features a yellow gold hinged pin and a platinum hook-type clasp with safety catch; both are functioning securely. Designed as a brooch for clothing, it can also be fastened into the hair or worn around the neck on a velvet ribbon.
