Ingamr Relling
Ingmar Relling (1920–2002) was a Norwegian designer whose work became central to the development of post-war Scandinavian furniture. He began his career at Rastad & Relling in 1947 and established his own studio in Sykkylven three years later. From the start, his approach focused on functional forms, clear lines and a strong connection to craftsmanship.
The legacy of the Siesta chair
In 1965, Relling designed the Siesta chair, now recognised as his most significant contribution. It won first prize at the Industry Council’s Chair competition the same year and has since become a symbol of Norwegian design. With its light frame, ergonomic structure and distinctive suspension, the Siesta was embraced internationally and even furnished spaces in the White House.
Minimalism with substance
Relling’s designs reflect a consistent philosophy: minimalism without compromise. His work avoids excess, instead relying on carefully considered materials and proportions to create long-lasting pieces. This design clarity positioned him as one of the key voices in the golden era of Scandinavian furniture and continues to influence designers today.
Ingmar Relling at Bazaa
The Ingmar Relling collection on Bazaa brings together vintage pieces that reflect his enduring impact. Each chair or lounger demonstrates his balance of comfort, material efficiency and visual restraint. These are objects made to be used, appreciated and passed on: designed with purpose and built to last.
