About this piece

English Victorian burr walnut tilt-top loo table, circa 1860. The violin-shaped top is finished with richly figured, book-matched burr walnut veneers displaying notable depth and warm colour, framed by a moulded edge.

The original tilt-top mechanism remains in working order, allowing the table to store upright when required and to lock securely when in use for a stable surface. The top is supported by a finely turned pedestal on a carved cabriole tripod base, terminating in the original white porcelain castors.

Conceived as a refined adaptation of the traditional loo table—named for the card game “Loo” (or Lanterloo)—this example carries a warm patina and is suited for use as a centre, breakfast, tea or dining table.
