Designed in 1935 by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto for Artek, the Artek High Chair K65 is a timeless example of Scandinavian modern design. Design Story
Founded in 1935 in Helsinki by Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto, and their collaborators, Artek was created to promote a new vision of modern living. The company’s name itself combined “art” and “technology,” reflecting its ambition to merge human centered design with industrial production.
At a time when much of modernism felt cold and mechanical, Alvar Aalto introduced softer organic forms inspired by nature and the Finnish landscape. His bent wood furniture became revolutionary, particularly pieces like the Stool 60, which used innovative laminated birch techniques to create elegant curves with remarkable structural simplicity.
