Designed by Antonio Citterio for Vitra, the AC 4 Office Chair is a premium ergonomic task chair combining comfort, functionality and distinctive European design.
This example features a rich forest green / dark olive fabric upholstery, giving the chair a warmer and more distinctive appearance than traditional office seating. The darker green tone works particularly well in contemporary offices, creative spaces and design-focused home workspaces.
The AC 4 features its signature three-zone padded backrest, providing targeted support while maintaining the chair’s slim and refined profile. The generously upholstered seat and responsive ergonomic mechanism make it suitable for comfortable everyday use.
Finished with a black five-star swivel base and castors, the design remains understated while allowing the green upholstery to become the focal point.
Originally introduced in 2008, the AC 4 is a refined example of Antonio Citterio’s long-running collaboration with Vitra.

Design Story
Founded in 1950 in Basel by Willi Fehlbaum, the company began as a shop fitting manufacturer before discovering the work of Charles Eames and Ray Eames during a trip to the United States. Impressed by their revolutionary approach to furniture, Fehlbaum secured the European licensing rights to produce their designs, a decision that would shape Vitra’s identity for decades.
Over time, Vitra became far more than a manufacturer. The company built long term collaborations with some of the world’s most important designers, including Verner Panton, Jean Prouvé, and Jasper Morrison. Rather than chasing trends, Vitra focused on timeless forms, intelligent engineering, and furniture designed to improve everyday life.
Its pieces became staples of modern interiors, from creative offices and museums to carefully curated homes. At the same time, Vitra helped preserve design history by continuing to produce many classic mid century designs with exceptional attention to detail and authenticity.
Today, Vitra remains deeply associated with contemporary architecture and design culture. Through its furniture, exhibitions, and the renowned Vitra Campus, the company continues to shape the conversation around how modern spaces should look, feel, and function.
