Deep brown ceramic vase by Remi Fontaine, distinguished by a neriage collar and signed on the base. From the artist’s studio in Paris.
Neriage is achieved by laminating different coloured clays together and throwing them on the wheel to create a swirling, spiralling pattern, here concentrated at the collar.
Remi Fontaine began his practice in 1991. Trained at the CNIFOP and further with Jean Cacheleux (Meilleur Ouvrier de France), his three-decade career spans turning in stoneware, earthenware, porcelain and plaster. He runs his own production workshop, has presented at Maison and Objets for several years, has worked as a ceramic consultant and object designer for various foreign governments, and is a professor of turning and modelling at Arts et Techniques Ceramiques.
